  2. Outline • The primary goal of this talk is to present a status of the ME1/1 test stand at CERN (building 904) and near future (2012) plans on electronics testing and commissioning USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  3. Goal ● Integration tests of the ME1/1 chambers with new electronics: - Seven Digital CFEB boards (OSU) - New Spartan-6 based ALCT card (UCLA) [TBC] - Optical DMB board (UCSB) - TMB with new Virtex-6 mezzanine card (TAMU) - New LVDB board (JINR) with new LVMB mezzanine card (UCD) ● New firmware and software ● Standalone setup in bld.904 and (later) at p.5 based on EMU crate - no TTC interface - no Track Finder connection - no FED crate ● Similar to ME4/2 test stand next door in bld.904 USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  4. Setup: Initial Configuration USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  5. Setup: Target Configuration USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  6. People Involved ● Vladimir Karjavin, Victor Perelygin (JINR) ● Petr Levchenko (CERN) ● Brant Rumberger, Dan King, David Nash, Joe Haley (NEU) ● Jason Gimore, Vadim Khotilovich, Idara Suarez (TAMU) ● Andrew Hart, Ben Bylsma, Carl Vuosalo, Stan Durkin (OSU) ● Jay Hauser (UCLA) ● Guido Magazzu (INFN/UCSB) ● Karoly Banicz (CERN) ● Jinghua Liu, Mikhail Matveev (Rice) USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  7. ME1/1 Chamber Status in Bld.904 ● Sits in b.904 next to electronic racks ● Equipped with 7 old CFEB boards and new LVDB board ● Gas, HV, LV ready USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  8. Test Stand Status ● Peripheral Crate: - Installed in the rack, power and cooling are being connected - CCB: ready - TMB2005: ready - DMB: ready - ALCT: installed on chamber - DDU: ready - VME Crate Controller (VCC): ready ● Computer: new emume11 (with UPS) - Network card for the DDU readout and VCC control (same as one at OSU): exists, on the way to CERN, expect to arrive July 23 ● Software: being installed and prepared, including the low-level functions for DCFEB in the PCrate core library USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  9. ME1/1 Assembly Area at SX5 USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review

  10. Near Future Plans (1) ● Install all the old peripheral boards, setup software and run initial debugging and connectivity tests: by August 1 ● Make chamber fully functional and run tests: by August 15 ● Ship new electronics to CERN: by August 15 - 7 pre-production DCFEB boards from OSU - TMB with new pre-production Virtex-6 mezzanine from TAMU - new optical DMB from OSU or UCSB ● Install new electronics, fibers and run initial debugging and connectivity tests: by September 15 ● Integration tests of new electronics with ME1/1: by October 15 ● Establish ME1/1 test setup at SX5: by November 15 ● Run integration tests at SX5: by December 15 ● Install production electronics (DCFEBs, ALCT, LVDB, LVMB) on four spare ME1/1 chambers and test them at SX5 before the other ME1/1 chambers are removed from the experiment: January – April 2013 USCMS CSC ME1/1 Upgrade Review
