All other verbs in French falls under 3 groups Verbs ending in ER (1st), IR (2nd) or RE (3rd) in the Infinitive. • They will always follow the same rules for the different tenses Present 1st 2nd 3rd Je e i s Tues is s Il / Elle / On e it - Nous onsssonsons Vousezssezez Ils / Ellesentssentent
Passé Composé • To form the Passé Composé you need to use Avoir in the Present Tense followed by the Past Participle of the verb you are using. • J’ai mangé J’ai fini J’ai pris The Past Participle of the verb you are using will depend on which group the verb belongs to. For ER verbs, just remove the R and put an accent on the E For IR verbs just remove the R For RE verbs there are no rules. Just look it up if you don’t know it.
Exceptions • In the Passé Composé there are 2 groups of verbs that take Etre in the present tense instead of Avoir. 1. All reflexive verbs (recognisable because they have a reflexive pronoun in front, in the infinitive SE / S’) Se lever S’habiller se coucher 2. All MR DAMP SERVANT (Check your books for the list)
