  1. How to download a paper from an electronic journal Assuming you’re on the A-Z list of journals

  2. The A-Z list gives you basic information about each journal

  3. For example, the journal Heart

  4. This information includes the name of the supplier • Heart - BMJ , Oct 1997 - , All NHS Athens In the case of Heart the supplier is the BMJ group

  5. Alternatively, • Journal of allied health ProQuest , Apr 2002 - , All NHS Athens In this second example the supplier is Proquest.

  6. Select the supplier of the journal you wish to read from the list below to see a short presentation showing how to download • BMJ • EBSCO • Highwire • Internurse • JAMA • Nature • Pleasenote that instructions for suppliers O – Z can be found in the second presentation

  7. A BMJ title: Journal of clinical pathology

  8. Clicking on the title of this journal takes you to the Athens login screen

  9. Enter your Athens details and click Login

  10. A list of available issues appears and the information at the top right of the screen shows that you’ve logged in successfully

  11. Select the issue you want to view (I’ve chosen June 2013)

  12. The contents appear and you can select the paper you want to download

  13. In glorious PDF for convenient printing…

  15. Emergency medicine Australasia Note that this journal has a one year embargo period. This means that only issues that are more than twelve months old are available for download. Click on the title of the journal to proceed.

  16. Enter your Athens details and click Login

  17. Click on the publication year of your paper (2011 in my example)

  18. Select the appropriate issue

  19. The issue downloads…

  20. Once you’ve found the paper you want click on PDF to download it

  21. Ready to print…

  23. Anesthesia and analgesia Note that this journal has a one year embargo period. This means that only issues that are more than twelve months old are available for download. Click on the title of the journal to proceed.

  24. Highwire redirects the link to the journal’s homepage

  25. Click on PAST ISSUES

  26. Select the year your paper was published in

  27. Then select the appropriate issue

  28. Find the right paper…

  29. And after a short wait…

  30. Internurse: e.g. Journal of wound care

  31. Clicking on the title of this journal takes you to the Athens login screen

  32. Now you’ve been recognised simply select the issue you’re looking for from the list that appears

  33. Select the paper you want…

  34. And download it.

  36. Archives of dermatology Note that the holdings of this title only run from 2008 to 2011. You will not be able to download articles free of charge that were published outside this date range.

  37. Click on SIGN IN

  38. Select Sign in via Athens

  39. Enter your account details and click Login

  40. The website should have recognised your Athens ID. Click on All Issues

  41. Make sure you the year you require is one to which we have full-text access

  42. Select the issue…

  43. Select the article you wish to read and click on PDF

  44. The article should download.

  45. Nature. We currently only purchase one title from this supplier: Eye

  46. Click on Login

  47. Scroll down to find the link to the Athens Login…

  49. Enter your Athens details

  50. There is no message to say you’ve been recognised… Click on Archive
