Becoming a trainer – evaluation of training • Kirkpatrick’s levels of evaluation • Pre and post course evaluation • Think about evaluation at the beginning of the training cycle and not just at the end – what is it you want to evaluate? What do you want to achieve by carrying out the training?

Donald Kirkpatrick – 4 levels of evaluation • reaction of student - what they thought and felt about the training • learning - the resulting increase in knowledge or capability • behaviour - extent of behaviour and capability improvement and implementation/application • results - the effects on the business or environment resulting from the trainee's performance

  10. Follow up of evaluation • Observing “on the job” • bring the group back together after 3 months, 6 months (you decide what length of time is appropriate – how would you do this? • check that the objectives set out in the initial training have been met
