  1. Foreign Travel Management System (FTMS) Approving a foreign travel request

  2. Email Notification Trip 20080xxxx is awaiting your review/approval at sequence x0 in the FTMS system at https://ftms.doe.gov/. Please log onto the system or contact your local OPOC/Foreign Travel Specialist to take appropriate action.

  3.   4. If asked, respond YES to close window

  5. Continue

  6. Select “Pending Approval” status

  7. To view the travel request before approving the trip, click on the “Trip Number”

  8. Form 551.1 Divisions • Section I – Traveler’s Information • Traveler’s personal data (name, address, etc) • Employment contact info. • Section II – General Trip Info. • Funding Sources • Benefit to the Government • Section III – Trip Itinerary • Destination(s), purpose of travel, contact info • Technical Justification

  9. When finished with review, click “HOME” to return to the list of trips that are pending approval.

  10. Choose “Pending Approval” for Traveler’s trip number being approved – In this example “Andrew Hutton”

  11. Select “Approve” from drop down, then select Save and Sign. OR If you are required to approve more than once,

  12. If you are to approve on more than one line select “Save and Sign (Remain)” this will return you to the approval screen to perform the second approval. On the final approval, select Save and Sign.

  13. After returning to the Pending Approval screen, another trip can be selected for approval or you can LOG OFF.
