  1. Domains and Kingdoms

  2. 3 Domains Everything that is living Archae Bacteria Eukarya

  3. 6Kingdoms Everything that is living Archae Bacteria Eukarya Archaebacteria Eubacteria Protista Fungi Plantae Animalia

  4. Domain ArchaeKingdom Archaebacteria • Prokaryotic – does not have a nucleus • Unicellular – single cell organism • Some autotrophic, some heterotrophic • Reproduce asexually (binary fission)

  5. Domain ArchaeKingdom Archaebacteria • Some live in extreme environments • High salinity • Low oxygen concentrations • High temperatures • High or low pH • Stomachs of grazing herbivores • Many live in oceans

  6. Domain BacteriaKingdom Eubacteria • Prokaryotic – lack a nucleus • Unicellular – single cell organism • Some autotrophic, some heterotrophic • Reproduce asexually (binary fission)

  7. Domain BacteriaKingdom Eubacteria • Used in the production of food, oil spill cleanup, and sewage treatment plants • Decomposers – break down dead organisms • Some cause disease – strep throat, food poisoning, etc.

  8. Domain EukaryaKingdom Protista • Eukaryotic - have a nucleus • Most unicellular, some multicellular • Some autotrophic, some heterotrophic • Reproduction can be asexual or sexual

  9. Domain EukaryaKingdom Protista • Most diverse of the kingdoms • Some people classify protists as any eukaryote that is not a fungus, plant, or animal • Includes amoeba, paramecium, algae, diatoms, and many more

  10. Domain EukaryaKingdom Fungi • Eukaryotic - have a nucleus • Some unicellular, most multicellular • Heterotrophic • Reproduction can be sexual or asexual

  11. Domain EukaryaKingdom Fungi • Digest food outside their bodies and then absorb it • Many are decomposers • Includes mold, mushrooms, and yeast

  12. Domain EukaryaKingdom Plantae • Eukaryotic - have a nucleus • Multicellular • Almost all are autotrophic (some parasitic) • Reproduction can be asexual or sexual

  13. Domain EukaryaKingdom Plantae • Most need sunlight, water, minerals, and gas exchange to survive • Includes trees, grasses, mosses, ferns, cactus, corn, ivy, flowers, etc.

  14. Domain EukaryaKingdom Animalia • Eukaryotic - have a nucleus • Multicellular • Heterotrophic • Most reproduce sexually but some asexual

  15. Domain EukaryaKingdom Animalia • Animals include lizards, grasshoppers, spiders, sponge, dogs, humans, worms, clams, fish, etc.
