  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title:[SC Opening/Closing Report for July 2013 Session] Date Submitted: [19 July 2013] Source: [Patrick Kinney] Company [Kinney Consulting LLC] Address [Chicago area, IL, USA] Voice:[+1.847.960.3715], E-Mail:[pat.kinney@ieee.org] Re:[SC Closing Report for July 2013 Session.] Abstract: [Opening & Closing Report for the July Session] Purpose:[] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. 2. Meeting Goals (15-13-0356-02) • SC Maintenance • Three teams that had been working on each of the three ETSI TC ERM requests reported back to SC-mag at the July plenary: • Agreed on extension range of values of the 802.15.4 Frame Types • Agreed on definition of a mechanism suitable for allocation/management of 802.15.4 IE IDs for all requests including external SDOs • Agreed upon resolution to the disconnect on the Information Element TLV structure between IEEE 802.15.4 and ETSI • SC WNG • Presentation on Establishing a Study Group on Spectrum Resource Usage (SG-SRU) • Presentation on Medical Body Area Network Systems European Update • Presentation on Short Camera Communications (CamCom) Tutorial • Presentation on OmniRAN Slide 2 <Pat Kinney>, <Kinney Consulting LLC>

  4. SC Maintenance AccomplishmentsETSI TC ERM change requests 1) Frame ID Extension    SC-M agreed to recommend defining the last reserved Frame ID value (0b111) to indicate an Extended Frame ID format consisting of 5 additional bits (total 8-bit Frame ID). IEEE will manage the assignment of the extended Frame ID space to IEEE task groups or SDOs. The value 0b111 111 was agreed to be assigned to TIA to ratify the TR51 Frame ID, giving TIA effectively 4 Frame IDs.    The frame format associated with extended Frame ID values is to be defined with each Frame ID as usual. 5. SC Maintenance AccomplishmentsETSI TC ERM change requests 2) ID Management    SC-M agreed to recommend that IEEE should manage the allocation of various resource IDs including IE IDs. The re-definition of 'unmanaged' ID ranges to 'Reserved' will be coordinated with vendors who have already used 'unmanaged' range values in their products.    Requests for resource values by external SDOs should be via the MOU channel between IEEE and the external SDO. IEEE will review the request and may suggest alternate solutions instead of assigning resource identifiers where appropriate. The timescale for response to a request should cover 2 IEEE meetings (i.e. of the order 2 months).    A liaison response to ETSI should be generated to report on progress on discussions of resource allocation management. 6. SC Maintenance AccomplishmentsETSI TC ERM change requests 3) IE Descriptor Format    SC-M agreed to recommend that the last version number value (0b11) for 15.4-2011 frame types (Beacon, Data, ACK, MAC Command) should be used to indicate that IEs use TLV descriptor format. Version 0b10 frames (current 15.4e values) use LTV descriptor format.    Similarly, Version 0b01 Multipurpose frames use TLV descriptor format. Existing 0b00 Version Multipurpose frames use LTV descriptor format.    Any future changes to 15.4-2011 frames can be accommodated by the large available extended frame ID space. A final note was also agreed that the one remaining reserved bit in 15.4-2011 frames should be assigned if possible when the new version is defined - otherwise it will not be possible to use the bit as there is no further version number space Slide 13 <Pat Kinney>, <Kinney Consulting LLC>

  7. SC WNG Presentations Presentation (15-13-0404-01) on Establishing a Study Group on Spectrum Resource Usage (SG-SRU) by S Kitazawa The focus of the Study Group is to draft a PAR and 5C for achieving more efficient utilization of spectrum resources through mechanisms of Radio Resource Measurement and Management for WPANs, primarily targeting applications using 802.15.4. Of particular interest are applications typical of those found in Hospital/Medical/Healthcare, Industrial Automation, and Infrastructure Monitoring. Presentation (15-13-04903-01) on Medical Body Area Network Systems European Update by D Evans European MBANS frequency band identified MBANS SRD regulations are being defined Coexistence discussions are on-going between the SRDs in the band ETSI harmonized standard development started Slide 14 <Pat Kinney>, <Kinney Consulting LLC>

  8. SC WNG Presentations Presentation (15-13-0398-02) on Short Camera Communications (CamCom) Tutorial by R Roberts There is an emerging interest in the implementation of Visible Light Communications (VLC) for uni-directional, low data rate, short message broadcasts via LEDs using an image sensor as the receiving device. In response, IEEE802.15 LED ID IG is contemplating transitioning from an interest group to a study group focusing on writing a PAR and 5C in regards to camera communications (CamCom). Presentation (omniran-13-048-04) on OmniRAN by Max Riegal The slides present the results of the study group addressing the objectives and contain some thoughts on the potential ways forward. There is no conclusion yet in OmniRAN EC SG, whether and how to progress the effort. Slide 15 <Pat Kinney>, <Kinney Consulting LLC>
