  2. International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day on 27 January commemorating the victims of the Holocaust. It commemorates the genocide that resulted in the death of 6 million Jewes, 1 million Roma , 250 thousand mentally and physically disabled people and 9 thousand homosexual men. They were killed in numerous Nazi work and extermination camps. On January 27, 1945, soviet forces liberated the Auschwith Birkenau extermination camp. In November 2005, the United Nations passed a resolution to mark January 27 as an international day of commemoration to honour the victims of the Holocaust.

  3. Osnovna škola Bartola Kašića takes part in commemorating the Holocaust Remembrance Day.It is very important for the young to learn about the past. The United Nations Secretary Genaral Ban Ki-Moon said: “We must also go beyond remembrance and make sure that new generations know the history. We must apply the lessons of the Holocaust to today’s world. And we must do our utmost so that all peoples may enjoy the protection and rights for whish the United Nations stand.”

  4. Some pupils prepared a presentation about the Holocaust for all the students.

  5. Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who had to go into hiding during Worls War Two to avoid the Nazis. After almost two years of hiding they were discovered and deported to concentration camps. After her death, thanks to her father, Anne became world famous because of the diary she had written in hiding.Anne Frank’s Diary is read by all primary school pupils in Croatia.

  6. Our librarian Vlasta Elez and 6th grade pupils Lora Miljanić, Klara Lukić and Nives Josić prepared a presentation about Anne Frank and read extracts from her diary. Everyone was listening very carefully.
