  1. Personnel Maintenance Bureau of Fire Services/Information Management System

  2. The new IMS program will allow the fire chief to add or remove members from their department personnel list. To add a person, the chief will click on Forms and then Adding New Web User from the Main Menu.

  3. Fill in as much information as possible when this screen comes up. The person entering the information will need the Social Security Number of the person for this preliminary data entry. This needs to be in the system so that the new user will eventually be able to log in to this program. The SSN will not appear in any subsequent screens. When all the information is entered, click on OK. The new member is now in the database and will appear on the fire department’s training record.

  4. Deactivating a Fire Department Member To deactivate a person the chief will click on Personnel Records from the Main Menu. To locate the person who will be deactivated, click on the magnifying glass next to the Person ID box. Select the individual. Click on the Personnel Profile that is shown here. This will in turn bring up the person’s fire department.

  5. Deactivating a Fire Department Member In this example, Miss Johnson left the Alpine Twp FD on June 24, 2009 according to the End Date. She joined the Fennville Area FD on June 22, 2009 according to the Start Date.

  6. Transfer or Re-Activation of Firefighter If a firefighter shows an End Date, their former fire chief ended their status due to his/her joining a new department or simply left the fire department. If the person was removed from a FD and returns to the fire service after any period of time, the Region Supervisor must be contacted. The Region Supervisor will need to re-activate the person within this program. Security measures within the program prevent a fire chief from accessing personnel files of any individual not on their fire department. Since the person is not technically on a department until the re-activation takes place, the Region Supervisor must go in and re-activate the individual for the fire chief. NOTE: This does NOT affect a new fire department member with no previous firefighting history. This individual will still be entered by the fire chief as a “New User” into the BFS/IMS system.

  7. Instructor Certification Information If you have a question regarding what courses you are allowed to instruct, simply click on the INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION button at the top of the page. The bottom window will display every course that you may instruct.

  8. Your Training Activity By clicking on the Training Activity button you will see all the courses that the OFFT has on file for you.
