  4. Advantages continued….. • Saves on overtime costs • More weekends off • More officers on shift • Team concept • Shift stability • Flexibility in scheduling

  5. Advantages continued…… • Promotes cohesiveness on shifts • Allows for sending more staff to training with less impact on shift • Better balance of experience on shifts new officers learn from more experienced

  6. Difficulty finding child care Increased fatigue if time outside of work not managed well Greater loss of pay for those who miss a day of work Part-time jobs will have to be rearranged or reorganized Disadvantages

  7. Disadvantages continued • Employees will not be able to rely on overtime to supplement their income. • Communication between upper management and shift may be more difficult- rely more on email and direct correspondence.

  8. Will I lose my overtime if I call in sick? Not necessarily. Any hours physically worked over 171 in a pay-cycle are paid at the overtime rate. Will hardships be considered? Yes, on a case by case basis, just as with the 5/2 schedule. Can I change teams/ shifts? Yes, we are working on a shift preference policy. FAQ

  9. FAQ Continued…… • Will Captains rotate? • This has not been decided. • How often will shifts rotate? • Shifts will not rotate. • What are the three days off? (long weekends) • Friday, Saturday, Sunday. • What are the shift times? • To be determined.

  10. FAQ Continued… • Will there be a roll call everyday? • Yes, a brief roll call will be conducted. • Is this only for Detention shifts? • We would like to incorporate twelve hour shifts into all positions where it is feasible.

  12. Your hourly wage will increase You work 84 hours in two weeks rather than 85 12 hour shift=2,184 hours per year 8.5 hour shift =2,210 hours per year The net effect is your hourly wage increases and the number of hours worked annually decreases A Deputy earning $32,000 annually would see an increase of $ 0.17 per hour. What happens to my pay?

  13. Staffing • Increase in the number of staff on duty per shift • You work with all of your team members unless someone takes time off • Allows for more flexibility in granting leave
