  2. “Technology can become the “wings” that will allow the educational world to fly farther and faster than ever before - if we will allow it.”Jenny Arledge

  3. Medical Technology Construction Technology Assistive Technology Information Technology TECHNOLOGY??? Technology is the creating + using + knowledge of • Tools • Techniques • Crafts • Systems or methods of organisation in order to solve a problem or serve some purpose.

  4. What is ICT?

  5. INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

  6. ICT is concerned with all the USES of digital technology that exist to help individuals and organisations use information Digital technology is information in a form suitable for use with a computer. We Store… Retrieve… Transmit… MANIPULATE… Receive… Download… Backup… …information electronically in a digital form

  7. Wake up, the world has changed! The only thing we know for certain, is that we don’t know what the world will be like when our children grow up. We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist, Using technologies that haven’t yet been invented, In order to solve problems that aren’t problems yet!

  8. Think about this… Google searches: - 34,000 per second; - 2 million per minute; - 121 million per hour; - 3 billion per day; - 88 billion per month Quote in Popular Mechanics Magazine in 1949 “Computers in the future may weigh no more than 1.5 tonnes.” The number of text messages sent and received every day exceeds the total population of the world There are about 540,000 words in the English language … about 5 times as manyas in Shakespeare’s time. 1 week’s worth of information in the New York times is more than a person came across in a lifetime in the 18th century Facebook has 500 million users. If it were a country, it would be the 3rd largest in the world – with 200 million more people that the United States! 3,000 books are published … every day

  9. Rather than giving today’s children the answers to the questions, we need to be teaching them: • how to think • how to differentiate • how to resolve scenarios to prevent them from an unknown future • how to learn … and relearn

  10. This is not like our childhood - a shift in the way we teach is required. To miss this point is quite possibly, to miss the boat and risk the children of today’s future. There are days when we have to learn new things - not just by the day but by the hour in order to keep up…….

  11. Integrating Technology into the Classroom Technology is only a TOOL to enhance or support instructional strategies… It is not a subject!

  12. Examples of how it may be used?

  15. Successful integration requires Formal training we need to be speaking to our leaders to develop us Trial & Error Fall down, get up, dust off, keep going :) Creativity enjoy the opportunity to create! Practical Experience the more you use it the easier it gets Collaboration There are people to help you, do it together with colleagues, encourage parents to do it with their kids Mastering it takes TIME!

  16. The Benefits… •  It opens new avenues to demonstrate creative thinking •  It allows students to determine the flow of information, review concepts, practice skills & carry out research •  It fosters problem-solving •  It provides inter-activity, learner control & student engagement • Technology assists teaching and learning •  It increases student motivation, interests them, captures & holds their attention •  It addresses different learning styles & reaches the diverse learners •  It encourages a more active role in the learning process

  18. As teachers become facilitators of learning and incorporate technology into their instructional strategies they will progress through several developmental stages …

  19. familiarisation utilisation integration reorientation revolution Welliver’s Instructional Transformation Model • teachers become aware of technology and its potential uses • teachers use technology but minor problems may cause teachers to discontinue use • technology becomes essential for the educational process & teachers are constantly thinking of ways to use it in the classroom • teachers begin to rethink the educational goals of the classroom with the use of technology • the evolving classroom becomes completely integrated with technology in all subject areas. Technology becomes an invisible tool that is seamlessly woven into the teaching and learning process

  20. Barriers To Integrationwith change there are always a few problems!! • Budget constraints • Lack of high-speed school networks • Lack of teacher training • Lack of administration support • Limited time for teacher planning • Basic resistance to change BUT with time, effective leadership, proper training, planning and a commitment to enhance teaching and learning using technology these may be overcome.

  21. A 2013 classroom at your school?

  22. “Technology is just a tool.In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.”-Bill Gates
