  1. ATHLETE PROJECT • In this project you will talk about your favorite athlete: 1st – Choose an athlete you would like to research and talk about 2nd – Using the internet, look for information about the person: who is the athlete, what sport does he/she play, when did he/she begin to play, where he/she was born, sport he/she plays, how long he/she has been playing. 3rd – Using the information create a power point with a minimum of 5 slides. 4th – On the last slide, put the main events of the athlete’s life in chronological order by using a timeline

  3. Roberto Clemente • His complete name was : Roberto Clemente Walker • He was born in San Anton in Carolina, Puerto Rico on August 18, 1934

  4. The Beginning • He started playing baseball at a young age. He played amatuer baseball with Juncos Double A Club and with the Santurce Crabbers in Puerto Rico • He was also good at track and field

  5. From the minor to the major leagues • In 1953 he began playing in the minor leagues for a team in Montreal, Canada • In 1954 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates • In 1955 he began to play for the Pirates • He played for the Pirates for 18 years

  6. Meet his family • In 1964 he married Vera Cristina Zabala • They had three sons: Roberto Jr.,  Luis Roberto and Roberto Enrique

  7. His achievements • In 1966 he was named MVP (most valuable player) • One of his first achievements was winning the World Series in 1971 • On September 30, 1972 he got his 3,000 hit in the major leagues

  8. In December of 1972 3 earthquakes destroyed the city of Managua and Roberto wanted to help. With four friends he gathered supplies loaded and left for Nicaragua Because of bad weather conditions his airplane never reached its destination. And a baseball legend was lost forever. An untimely death

  9. The Hall of Fame • After his death, Clemente was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. • He is remembered as one of the greatest athletes and humanitarians of all time
