Overview • The Ministry and TDSB partnered to provide support to students and teachers of math • Phase 1 – September 2009 • all grade 9 & 10 math students at 25 schools • Phase 2 – September 2010 expansion • all grade 9 & 10 math students at an additional 14 schools • Phase 3 – February 2011 expansion • all grade 9 applied students at an additional 37 schools

  3. Three Online Resources • The Ministry provides two online resources to support mathematics: Homework Help Ontario Educational Resource Bank • The TDSB provides an additional online resource to support mathematics: The Math Coach

  6. Homework Help • Free online real time one-to-one math tutoring • by Ontario certified mathematics teachers • Available 5 evenings per week • Sunday to Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. • Available to the grade 9 applied math students at your school

Ontario Educational Resource Bank • Ministry designed online resource bank • created by Ontario teachers for Ontario teachers and students • offering K-12 resources in all subject areas, including math • searchable by grade, subject, course code, expectation, strand, resource type, file type or keyword • accessible 24/7 from home or at school

  14. User ID and Password • The resource bank is user id and password protected. This information cannot be posted on any publicly available electronic medium. • If you require the user id and password, please email Yvette Duffy at yvette.duffy@tdsb.on.ca

  17. Searching Allows for: • a simple search using keywords • browse by curriculum • advanced search Also, allows: • language of resource • language of curriculum • board, i.e. Public or Catholic

Introducing these Resources Homework Help • Registration of your students can begin as of February 21st • Notification Letter to Parents/Guardians must be sent home first • Delivered electronically to the Principal of your school • Allows parents/guardians to ‘opt out’ their child and child will not be granted access to the site • Parents/Guardians who do not want their child to participate must sign and return the Notification Letter to your school by February 18th Ontario Educational Resource Bank: • Introduction can begin immediately Math Coach • Introduction can also begin immediately

Support Packages • At the end of this week, the following will be sent to you: • A package through interoffice mail • An electronic package through Outlook Inside this package, you will find: • Registration Instructions • Scavenger Hunts • Promotional Materials • such as rulers, posters and flyers • In-service Invitation – February 10th or 17th
