  3. Sustainability: • At The Austin Garden we strive for efficient use of resources that come into our facility and aim for long term maintenance of the environment. We want to responsibly manage all resources socially, economically, and environmentally to ensure customers are satisfied with our products and services.

  4. What is LEED? • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design • LEED is an international green rating certification • The higher the rating, the more efficient the building is

  5. Five Rating Systems: • Building Design and Construction • LEED for New Construction • LEED for Core and Shell • LEED for Schools • LEED for Healthcare • LEED for Retail • Green Interior Design and Construction • Green Building Operations and Maintenance • Homes • Neighborhood Development

  6. Four Levels of LEED: • There are 100 base points, 6 possible Innovation in Design and 4 Regional Priority points • Certified 40–49 points • Silver 50–59 points • Gold 60–79 points • Platinum 80 points and above

  8. Construction Requirements: • Heat reflective paint • Increase insulation • Use fiberglass windows • “Self cleaning” glass • Install weather-stripping • Install ICF’s • Radiant floor heating • Geothermal heating and • Recycled material

  9. Operation Requirements: • Motion sensor lighting • Outdoor timers • Regulate heat and air conditioner • Programmable thermostat • Shuttle service • Recycling • Bathroom pluming • High efficiency toilets • Energy-Star appliances

  10. Noteworthy Feature #1: • Solar Forest • Provides shade • Electric vehicles • Electricity at night

  11. Noteworthy Features #2: • Cool roof • Facility benefits • Reduce bills • Extend roof life • Environmental benefits • Lower electricity demand • Reduce power plant emissions
