  1. Multi-functional Ambulance Stretcher for the Philippines' Rescue and Emergency Operations (MASPREO)

Background of the Study The Reality of Urban Areas     According to 911 medical services, the urban cities in the Philippines are relatively small when it comes to space, they have to adjust to their most compact equipment in order to perform the whole operation. Thus, it is really recommended to have a more compact and light medical handling device.

  3.  Background of the Study The Comfort of Patients     There are also times when they handle emergencies, they have to prepare a lot of equipment to be able to perform the whole process in ease. With a lot of equipment/transports used to carry the patient to the ambulance, there will be a lot of transferring that will take place from one MHD (medical handling device) to another.

  4.   Background of the Study The Source of The Equipment used in Emergency Medical Services The stretchers used in 911 are all imported. There are no known manufactures of innovative stretchers found here in the Philippines.

  5. What is MASPREO? It is a multi-functional stretcher that is capable of the following features:     - Transforms into a Wheelchair and Vice versa     - Houses a detachable Canvass type Stretcher     - Able to be used in tight spaces     - Being lighter compared to the conventional stretchers     - Foldable for space-saving and easier transport The detachable Strecher is also capable of the following features     - It can be converted into a chair-like mode - It can be folded

Significance of the Study  The Medical Handling Device(MHD) is designed for the sole purpose of creating the ideal wheelchair capable of addressing the needs in the Philippine setting: • lighter and more compact compared to most MHD, since most stretchers currently used now is heavy and bulky • can access areas that are tight and small for conventional MHD to access.  The MASPREO is also designed to prevent any more transferring from one MHD to another which a factor for the comfortability of the patient as well as the convenience of the medical technicians

Significance of the Study • designed can be converted into a wheelchair for easier transport • essential for those patients who cannot lie down due to certain complications • has certain advantages over conventional MHD like it can go up the stairs • can dynamically shift the position of its handles for stronger support and transport them easier even in stairs.

General Objective To create a medical handling device, that would suit the Philippine setting as it is used in the EMS as well as to enhance the current capabilities lightweight,compactness,accessibility,and functionality,to make the medical rescue more efficient to ensure the safety of the patient.

Specific Objectives ●To create a medical handling device that would automatically transform from an ambulance stretcher into a wheelchair ●To create a medical handling device; composing of two parts; the detachable stretcher (medical handling device) and the base, to  be able to perform its functionality ●To create a medical handling device that would be lighter than the ambulance stretchers but is still efficient

  10. Specific Objective For the detachable stretcher: ●To create a stretcher that doesn’t require the patient to transfer from one handling device to another. ●To create a stretcher that can fold into a bed and a chair ●To create a stretcher that could be carried by one person (without patient)

Scope For MASPREO • it will have a maximum carrying capacity of 180kilos • It will have a maximum weight of less than 70 lbs • It can be used inside and outside the hospital • The dimension of this equipment will be similar to that of the the operation bed in the ER and can be contracted to a size that can fit in the ambulance, which is • The base part will contain the automated mechanism for the overall MHD stretcher-wheelchair

  13. Limitations • It cannot be used as an operating bed • Transformation will only be for stretcher to wheelchair and vice versa • It cannot accommodate people with back problems
