  1. WALK THROUGH CALIFORNIA COSTUME IDEAS

  2. WARNING! Any historical weapon replicas/facsimiles (if allowed at all) MUST be made of paper, soft plastic, lightweight wood, rubber or foam rubber, cardboard, or other virtually HARMLESS materials. ABSOLUTELY NO REAL and/or METAL ITEMS!ABSOLUTELY NO fighting, “play fighting,” or pretend use of weapons will be tolerated. This means you!If allowed, all such items will be allowed at schoolONLY for the day of the California Walk Through.

  3. Miner: Jeans, flannel shirt, boots, and a hat.  Add a gold mining pan (pie tin decorated with glitter), face paints for beard and some "dirt."

  4. Missionary: A brown or gray robe with a robe belt, a cross around your neck, sandals on feet. Maybe carry a walking stick.

  5. Native American: Different Native American tribes wear different types of clothing. 

  6. Conquistador Spanish Explorer/ Conquistador: Create armor from cardboard and foil/spray paint. Wear a silver-colored helmet.

  7. Pioneer: Girls can wear a white blouse, long skirt, or a long cotton dress and a bonnet. Boys can wear pants with a collared shirt, vest and a hat with a wide brim, or a coonskin cap.

  8. Farmer: Overalls with a flannel shirt, a straw hat and a basket of fruits and vegetables.

  9. Rancher or “The Law”: Boots, jeans, a long sleeve shirt with a collar, maybe a vest, maybe a bandana

  10. Traditional Mexican or SpanishPerson:

  11. Governor: Dressy pants, a suit jacket and tie.  Carry a briefcase, maybe.

  12. Or… create a costume inspired by your Expert Card or some other California history item! Just be sure to get your teacher’s approval. Don’t forget to study your Expert Card and have your answer ready (Google it). We hope you enjoy getting ready for your “Walk Through California”. But don’t forget about the...
