Early life • born 21 April 1926 in Mayfair, London • baptised in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace 29 May 1926 • At the time of her birth, she was third in the line of succession to the crown • Educated at home with Princess Margaret under the supervision of her mother • Studied history, modern languages, religion, constitutional history and law

  4. 1939 evacuated with sister to Windsor Castle • 1940 made her first broadcast, addressing other children who had been evacuated • 1945 joined the Women´s Auxiliary TerritorialService – trained as a driver

Marriage • Married Philip, The Duke of Edinburg ( born as a Prince of Greece and Denmark) on 20 November 1947 • After wedding they took up residence at Clarence House, London • 14 November 1948 Elizabeth gave birth to her first child Prince Charles of Edinburgh • Other child: The Princess Anne, The Prince Andrew and The Prince Edward

The sixteen countries of which she is Queen are known as Commonwealth Realms, and their combined population is 128 million. ♠Head of the Commonwealth, Lord High Admiral, Supreme Governor of the Church of England (styled Defender of the Faith), Lord of Mann, and Paramount Chief of Fiji. Following tradition, she is also styled Duke of Lancaster and Duke of Normandy. She is also Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces of many of her Realms. ♠ fortieth monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England ♠ patron of more than 620 charities and organisations

Some interests • During her reign, the Queen has undertaken over 256 official overseas visits to different countries • She visited Australia 15 times, Canada 23 times, Jamaica 6 times and new zealand 10 times • The Queen was the first british Monarch to visit China ( in 1986 ) • She sent around 100 000 telegrams to centenarias in the UK and the Commonwealth

  10. She learnt to drive in 1945 when she joined the Army • She sent her first email in 1976 from an army base • She sent around 280 000 telegrams to couples in the UK and the Commonwealth celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary

She has opened 15 bridges in the UK during her reign • The first footballmatch The Queen attended was in the 1953 FA Cup Final • During her reign there were 10 Prime ministers and 6 Arcibishops of Cantebury • The Queen has opened Parliament every year except 1959 and 1963, when she was expacting Prince Andrew and Prince Edward respectively

The Queen has met the following astronauts at Buckingham Palace • The first astronaut to go into space- Russian – Major Jurij Gagarin • The first woman in space – Russian – Mrs. Valentina Tereschova • The first man on the moon – American – Neil Amstrong – and the other american astronauts – Michal Collins and Edwin Aldrin

Queen and Christmas • The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have sent about 37 500 Christmas cards during The Queen’s reign • She has given out about 78 000 Christmas pudding to staff continuing the costum of King George V and King George VI • Every year she sends Christmas tree to Westminster Abbey, Welligton Barracks, St Paul’s Cathedral, St Giles, Edinburgh, The Canongate Kirk and local schools and churches in Sandringham area
