  2. Agenda • Welcome Tom Thompson • Anti-trust Guidelines Chris Gardner • March Minutes Tom • Media Coverage Chris • Countermat Tom • Training Tom and Chris • Web Site Chris • ASE Tom • EPA E-15 Proposal Leigh Merino

  3. Anti-Trust Guidelines • It is the unqualified policy of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association to conduct its operations in strict compliance with the antitrust laws of the United States. • MEMA's antitrust policy prohibits any discussions which constitute or imply an agreement or understanding concerning: 1) prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; 2) profits or profit margins or cost data; 3) market shares, sales territories or markets; 4) allocation of customers or territories; 5) selection, rejection or termination of customers or suppliers; 6) restricting the territory or markets in which a company may resell products; 7) restricting the customers to whom a company may sell; or 8) any matter which is inconsistent with the proposition that each manufacturer, wholesaler and distributor must exercise its independent business judgment in pricing its services or products, dealing with its customers and suppliers and choosing markets in which it will compete.

  4. FPMC Mission Statement Provide professional technicians and DIY installers with the resources, tools and information to more effectively diagnose and service automotive fuel systems

  5. March 19th/09 Minutes • ASCCA • Chris to contact for article • Countermat Project • Create digital diagnostic tree instead of printing a poster • IATN and Identifix • Free Cat • Can we get a link to this site on FPMC website?

  6. Focus Group • Highlites • Diagnostics • 75 percent of fuel pump issues are straight forward and easy to diagnose. If so, why so much warranty? • Replicate Gates manual on timing belts for installer • Could be a by-product of the 2010 training pgm • General • Fuel Pumps being damaged by ethanol

  7. Focus Group Con’t • Challenges • Difficult to order correct parts through catalog/parts look-up applications • Can the aftermarket sell parts by VIN numbers? Get Technologue and Polk and Experian together to figure this out. • Training • There is not much in the way of fuel system training. For example, many shops would rather replace 3-4 pumps before analyzing for other causes. Training would stem some of this.

  8. Focus Group Con’t • Misc • Suggestion – work with Motor to see if it could work with FPMC to generate vehicle specs relative to fuel flow/voltage/pressure to provide to shops for the to use in testing fuel pumps

  9. Media Coverage • Parts & People • June • July • Online

  10. Countermat Project

  17. Countermat Project • Options • Create branded countermats jointly where 2-3 members share the business with a single distributor ie • Bosch, Delphi, Carter with NAPA • Bosch, Delphi Airtex with Carquest • Airtex, Denso, Delphi with A.D.N. • Countermat would also reference • “Message Endorsed by the Fuel Pump Manufacturer’s Council

  18. Training Program • Lincoln training video • Sent slides from March meeting to Lincoln to verify accuracy of assumptions • Marc Allen verifies that project is continuing • In process of writing script now • Will have a rough version for viewing an approval by FPMC approx Sept/09 • Finished version will be available for posting to Website mid-4th Qtr

  25. Reducing National Warranty • What else can we do to continue the fight against excessive warranty • Beefing the website paramount to other actions • Other projects • Cost prohibitive? • Can we solicit funds from • Trade organizations • Media • Government organizations (municipal, state, federal) • Needed to help fund training program
