  1. GeoGebra WorkshopGCCTM Meeting Dr. Joanne Goodell Cleveland State University September 13, 2010

  2. What is GeoGebra • A free dynamic mathematics software for schools that joins geometry, algebra and calculus • Two windows, one for graphics and the other for algebraic expressions form the interface • Drawing pad used like Geometer’s Sketchpad, can be used without the algebra window • Can create interactive Java applets from your drawings that can be run from any web site • Book has great introductory materials • Wiki has lots of free materials • Could be used to supplement or replace GSP

  3. GeoGebra Options • Can run as independent Java applet from the computer you are using-this may not work in the lab without tech support setting it up. • Web start runs the Java applet from within the browser installed on the computer you are using-will probably work without tech support, but you must have internet access.

  4. Links for GeoGebra • Home page for GeoGebra • http://www.geogebra.org/cms/ • Book has great introductory materials • http://www.geogebra.org/book/intro-en/ • Wiki is used to download and upload teaching materials • http://www.geogebra.org/en/wiki/index.php/English

  5. Try These • http://www.geogebra.org/en/upload/files/english/Dixon_RN/Circle_Basics.html • http://www.geogebra.org/en/upload/files/english/Cullen_Stevens/trianglecenters.html • http://www.geogebra.org/en/upload/files/knwilson/Transformations.html • http://www.geogebra.org/book/intro-en/ • Do activities 5, 7, 9 and 10 at least from the book before branching out to further explorations on the next slide.

  6. GeoGebra Main Site • http://www.geogebra.org • Classroom activities index • http://www.geogebra.org/en/wiki/index.php/English • 4th grade math teaching activities • http://geogebrawiki.wikispaces.com/Home

  7. Demonstrations of how to use GeoGebra • http://math247.pbworks.com/Learn-and-Use-GeoGebra • Practicing slope-intercept interactive worksheet • http://www.geogebra.org/en/upload/files/english/steve_phelps/CP_Geometry/Slope_intercept_practice.html • Math 24 7 website • http://www.mathcasts.org/

  8. Bisecting angles mathcast • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVOaHnRGg3c&p=5F6C060E4E4F2AB0&index=8&playnext=1 • Measuring and drawing angles with protractor – REALLY GREAT FOR SMART BOARD!! • http://mathcasts.org/gg/student/angles/angles/angles_index.html • Making an interactive worksheet • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVSNHhCeukw&NR=1

  9. Further Exploration • Look at other activities and resources online. Wiki middle school level contains protractor practice • Adapt Sketchpad activities for GeoGebra • Write new explorations to match your curriculum and standards and export as java applets for your students to use on your website.
