  6. SATCOM-II Provides End-to-End Solutions

  7. Service Type IMobile Satellite Communications Satellite Phones – Voice & Low Rate Data Iridium – Provides voice and data services. Data rates up to 2.4 kbps. Covers the whole earth, including poles, oceans, and airways. Globalstar –Provides voice and data services. Data rates up to 9.6 kbps . Coverage area includes North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and parts of Africa.

  8. Service Type IMobile Satellite Communications Voice and Data Services (Cont’d) Inmarsat – Inmarsat provides mobile voice and high speed data services. Includes Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN). Data rates range from 600bps to 256kbps. Coverage area includes about 98% of the land mass area. Thuraya – Provides voice, fax, and data via hand held, vehicular, and fixed terminals. Data rates up to 9.6 kbps. Coverage area includes Europe, North, Central Africa and large parts of Southern Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia. Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) – MSV provides wireless data, voice, and dispatch radio services. Coverage area includes North America. It is interoperable with other services (e.g. LMR).

Service Type IIContinuity of Operations • Providing satellite connectivity when • terrestrial connection (frame relay, MPLS, T1, etc.) is not available. • Routing Overview: • Routes traffic over wire-line or satellite paths based on policy based rules • Loss of primary path will result in all traffic being re-routed over the other path • Upon restoral of primary link, all traffic re-routed back to primary path • Path Diversity using Satellite for to achieve COOP Satellite backup as “Insurance”
