Rediscover the Message • “Exegesis anyone?” • In this step you state what the message was to the original people listening to it. • Do not merely paraphrase but explain what the passage meant in its original context. • Contrast this with the “Live the Vision” portion which emphasizes application in our current setting.

  5. Mark the Literary Context • Relate the parts • Identify the kind of literature you are dealing with. (For example – case law or apodictic law?, psalmic or wisdom literature, didactic material or prophecy?) • How does this unit, with its specific type, relate to what comes before and after it? • Think themes. What emerges so far from steps 1-5? (F to M?)
