  1. Cultural Literacy How our lives are influenced by great artists

  2. Cultural Literacy • This seminar is designed to assist you in gaining an awareness of great art, both from the past and from today. • We will be listening to great music, watching amazing dancers perform well-known choreography, and looking at the art work of some of the best known artists in the world.

  3. Cultural Literacy • After the first few sessions where you will be exposed to many different types of art and artists, you will be choosing a particular artist or work of art to research and share with the class. • Your final product will need to be in the form of a Powerpoint presentation OR a live performance in the style of the artist you have chosen. • Connections points will be awarded based on full seminar participation and a quality presentation of the final product.

  4. Music • What does music do for you? • What kinds of music are you familiar with? • How much do you know about classical music? Musical theater? Jazz? New Age? • Would you rather listen to music or make your own?

  5. Visual Art • What artists are you familiar with? • What types of visual art inspire you? Paintings/drawings? Sculpture? Environmental art? • Do you enjoy looking at art? Do you like to create art of your own? • What does art do for us?

  6. Dance • Who are some dancers that you’ve heard of? • What about choreographers? • What styles of dance are you familiar with? • Would you rather watch dance or participate? • Why dance?
