  2. Cardiogenic shock occurs when the heart is suddenly unable to supply enough blood to the vital organs of the body. The failure of the heart to pump enough nutrients results in reduced blood pressure and organ failure. According to reports from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) heart attack is the most common cause of cardiogenic shock. Cardiology medical billing and coding can be challenging. Physicians can rely on medical billing companiesto report diagnosis and treatment correctly on claims. Cardiogenic shock is more common in men than in women, especially the elderly. If not treated immediately, cardiogenic shock can be fatal. Another grave complication is damage to the liver, kidneys or other organs from lack of oxygen, which can be permanent. In most cases, patients experience mild symptoms at first. In some cases, the patient may not have any symptoms and then immediately lose consciousness. Identifying the symptoms of the condition at an early stage can help reduce the risk of developing cardiogenic shock in the long run. Diagnosis involves a physical examination and tests like - Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), Echocardiogram, Cardiac catheterization (angiogram) and Chest X-ray. Treatment modalities for the condition involve a combination of medications, heart procedures or other surgeries, depending on the person’s condition.
