What is GALILEO • Georgia’s Statewide Virtual Library provided by the state to K12 • Full of licensed content such as Encyclopedia Britannica, EBSCO, and SIRS products • Unique educational content from reputable sources like the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) http://www.galileo.usg.edu

  3. What is NSDL • Established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2000 as an online library providing access for users to exemplary resources for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and research. • Provides an organized point of access to high-quality STEM content that is aggregated from a variety of other digital libraries, NSF-funded projects, and NSDL-reviewed web sites. • Provides access to services and tools that enhance the use of this content in a variety of contexts. NSDL is designed primarily for K-16 educators. • Access to most of the resources discovered through NSDL is free; however, some content providers may require a login, or a nominal fee or subscription to retrieve their specific resources. http://nsdl.org

  13. High School • SEV2. Students will demonstrate an understanding that the Earth is one interconnected system. • a. Describe how the abiotic components (water, air, and energy) affect the biosphere. • b. Recognize and give examples of the hierarchy of the biological entities of the biosphere (organisms, populations, communities, ecosystems, and biosphere). • c. Characterize the components that define a Biome. Abiotic Factors – to include precipitation, temperature and soils. Biotic Factors – plant and animal adaptations that create success in that biome. • d. Characterize the components that define fresh-water and marine systems. Abiotic Factors – to include light, dissolved oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen, pH and substrate. Biotic Factors – plant and animal adaptations characteristic to that system.

Use the Periodic Table to predict periodic trends including atomic radii, ionic radii, ionization energy, and electronegativity of various elements. • b. Compare and contrast trends in the chemical and physical properties of elements and their placement on the Periodic Table.
