Torch Relay • BBC and Channel 4 • No route has yet been planned • Inspirational “ideas” • Main themes; Everyone involved but a focus on Youth, Sustainable (green), national but with global reach, for our times (now!) • Guiding principles – Youth, Legacy, Inspire, peace/unity/friendship, for everyone, the “best of us”. • The Olympic relay will last for between 60-80 days. Final 5-7 days in London. Minimum 3 days per region.

  18. Torch relay continued........ • Relay will start in mid/late May 2010. Paralympic relay will run in the period between the closing of the Olympics and the opening of the Paralympics. • Each day will be based on; am – relay, lunch break (with the opportunity for events/performance), pm – relay, Evening (2 hours) Performance/celebration event (this would need a performance area) • Host communities would be expected to do things along the route - especially cheer, support, applaud. • Risk assessments, liaison with local police, potential road closures, crowd management, health and safety etc etc.

Torch relay continued....... • The relay will be “sponsored” and so London 2012 will need to ensure those sponsors are happy and participating in the relay. • The relay will not be “continuous” so there will be a significant back up team with transport support etc. It is a convoy of people and cars/vans/buses. • Each person will run approximately 300 metres.
