  1. Learning Objective: Students will be able to correctly cite information using a bibliography. Writing Strategies Standard 1.8

  2. Why do we write bibliographies? • To acknowledge our sources (show where we found the information) • To give our readers information to identify and consult our sources • To make sure our information is accurate • To show academic honesty

  3. What if we don’t include abibliography? This is called plagiarism (using another person’s words, pictures or ideas without giving them credit). To avoid plagiarism, we give credit to our sources by citing them in our bibliography.

  4. What is a bibliography? • A bibliography is an alphabetical list of all sources you consult or use for projects, reports, research, etc., including– • books • magazines • newspapers • encyclopedias

  5. How to cite a book… Author’s last name and first name should be first. Title of book Meade, Melody. Endangered and nearly endangered species in the Washington DC area. New York:Scholastic, 2009. Place of publication Publisher Date it was published

  6. When writing a research report… • When you write a research report you read different articles, books, magazines, etc • If you want to use words that the author used you would use quotation marks in your report to include those same words. • In the bibliography of your report you would include the author’s last name, first name. Title of book. City it was published:Publisher, and year.

  7. If Tommy decides to add a quotation from a book to his report, his bibliography should include all of these except • the title of the book • The date the book was published • Author of book • How many pages the book was
