    1. 1 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER Covetousness is sin Ephesians 5:3 Colossians 3:5 Luke 12: 15 “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God!” The greatest possession over which we have stewardship is our SOUL!

    2. 2 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER The parable actually deals with WHAT MAKES US TRULY HAPPY We are placed in the position of “judge” as we determine the elements of blessing with ourselves: ARE WE TRULY HAPPY? WHAT GENERATES THAT HAPPINESS?

    3. 3 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER God grants us material blessings We are permitted to call these “our own” Matthew 19:22 Acts 2:45 The farmer is NOT condemned for the ownership. He is in fact BLESSED! He failed in recognizing GOD’S part in these blessings. Silently, God provides the blessings of life to all mankind.

    4. 4 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER The farmer’s selfish thinking “Oh what shall I do?” “I have more than sufficient now and I still want more!” What was the TRUE ORIGIN of his blessings? Everything of THIS world spirals downward into ruin. ONLY SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS ENDURE FOREVER!

    5. 5 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER His selfish answer to his selfish concern “Pull down my barns and build bigger ones.” His answer is one of destruction, while he believed it increase! Ecclesiastes 5:10 The bigger his abundance, the bigger his pride. Proverbs 16:18

    6. 6 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER His continued answer “Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” Soul = personal contentment; soul = me His security was insecure! His answer did not consider cost, time, weather or even failure of crops. His statement is as if he already achieved his conclusion, when in fact, it had not begun!

    7. 7 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER God’s answer! “Thou fool!” Psalms 14:1 The farmer had determined himself as “god,” provider, and sustainer! The farmer had determined the materials of earth-life as the only necessities to TRUE HAPPINESS.

    8. 8 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER God’s answer Is it too late for the farmer to repent? God is NOT willing that any should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance. However … GOD, not man, has control of time (Heb. 9:27) GOD knows man’s soul best. (Eccl. 12:7) GOD continues to give man every conceivable evidence of His care and desire for the salvation of our souls!

    9. 9 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER God’s answer GOD does not grant us SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS against our will! If we show no desire for God in this life, how would we prove a desire for Him in the next? 2 Thessalonians 1: 7 - 9

    10. 10 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER God’s eternal blessings are greater than anything man, WITHOUT GOD will ever acquire! God expects man to care for the soul GOD gave him – WITH OBEDIENCE! God’s requirements for the soul are expected for an unexpected time!

    11. 11 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER The destination of worldly goods matters not. Man cannot control the destiny of any earthly goods; not even with a will. (Ex. Notice how men ignore the Lord’s “Last Will and Testament.”)

    12. 12 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER When man ignores Christ’s will … He loses more than Christ’s promises He must still reckon with matters MAN cannot control Therefore, man MUST recognize from Whom TRUE BLESSINGS (HAPPINESS) COME

    13. 13 THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FARMER “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” EVERYONE is subject to this rule! The TRUEST of values, blessings, happiness … GOD IN US… US IN GOD!!!
