  1. Competitive Summer Season Week of Sept 24 U11/U12 – Cover & Partner Defending

  2. When you get there • Session will be Play (until you have 8 players) – 11+ Warm-up (8 minutes) – Work (35 minutes) – Play (8 minutes) • Take attendance • Play - Once you have 8 players begin session • 11+ should only take about 8 minutes – on the shoulder contact it should be as if players are giving each other high five with their shoulders then landing both feet and soft meaning that knees should give as players hit the ground to absorb impact • Having trouble with particular players use names to address them • Demo what you want!

  3. 11+ - http://f-marc.com/11plus/ To see the 11+ in action go to: http://f-marc.com/11plus/exercises/

  4. Key • Coach • Players • Players w/ball • Cones • Balls • Pugg • Goal

  5. Play – To end line Split the players into two teams Play 3v3 to start and play no larger then 4v4once you have players you should begin play shortly thereafter Have a pile of balls near each end line when you run out of balls go collect Dribbling over endline KEYS Look for opportunities to get forward Remind players that smashing into players forward can be solved by playing backwards then forwards sometimes 35 yds. 25 yds.

  6. Activity 1 – Hunting in pairs Pair players up and select a couple of pairs to be it first Tie 2or 3 bibs together and have each partner hold one end of the tied bib The connected pairs then need to hunt down the players with the balls and try the ball out When players have their ball knocked out the need to pay a quick penalty that get playing again Pairs are it for short rounds and then let others be connected. Pairs need to keep score of how many balls they knock out of the space KEYS Be connected; figure out who is going to lead Can players be low and athletic Try not to be in in line but at a 45° angle Communicate

  7. Activity 2 – 1v2 Distance 2 Teams - Keep score – Have each team do role for a period of time then switch roles Partner defending players up and have them defend in pairs A can attack either goal-pass thru to score D wins pass thru large counter goal D moves on pass from one teammate to other KEYS Close ground on pass – large steps to gain as much ground as possible as soon as A has the ball under control chop up steps Can you get attackers head down to make them predictable Defending partner can’t be on same plane can the be at a 45° - Pair that is flat in a straight line is junk Avgdefending is stopping the other team good defending is winning the ball and connecting with a teammate, great defending is winning a ball, connecting with a teammate and scoring – We want GREAT defending!

  8. Activity 3 – Play Split the players onto two teams Play 3v3 to start and play no larger then 5v5 with a few subs if necessary. Make sure to adjust the field a little more space is better then too small Have a pile of balls near each end line when you run out of balls go collect One team could play to goal w/sweeper/GK KEYS Effort is number 1 priority. If effort is not sufficient pull player out and have them watch until the are ready to give effort Willingness to Defend and Attack Look for opportunities to shoot

  9. Thanks Have fun, be detailed, be demanding!

  10. U11/U12 Week of Sept 24– Cover and Partner Defending Play • 3v3 up to 4v4 – once at 4v4 get going with session • Pass over Endline to score – player should not be over endline before pass is played (like offsides) • Mentality • Relate to theme of the day 11+ • Once you have 8 players begin formal WU • Not a race • Focus on proper movement Activity 1 – Hunting in Pairs • Get players together in pairs • Select a couple of pairs to be hunters and put the rest on the ball dribbling • Hunters try to knock balls out of bounds and are connected by 2 or 3 bibs tied together • Play short rounds (30-45 seconds) have pairs keep score – pts for every ball they knock out of bounds • For players who have ball knocked out of bounds do quick penalty then get them back in • Use bibs to establish distance– adjust as needed • Very important to establish that players hunters cannot be on the same plane – must be staggered • Work together Activity 2– 1v2 - Distance • Two teams-one defend and one attacks then switch • Play consists of 1 attacker and 2 defenders • Attacker passes thru one of two goals to score • Defenders score if they can pass thru large goal • Play begins when one attacker passes to other • Have attacking players rotate • Have defending players pair up and stay in pairs • Close as much ground as possible on initial pass • Once ball is under control chop up steps and get low • Pair of defenders must be staggered • Great defenders take the ball, connect with team, and score Play • Effort • Team attacks/team defends • 3v3 up to 5v5 with subs if necessary • - Decisions - Ownership - Technique - Attacking - Standards - Enjoyment The Woodbury Way
