  2. Introduction • Microsoft Windows XP is a operating systems new version by Microsoft after Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium.Which they have many new features on Windows XP. Such as security, manageability, reliability, Plug n Play, easy-to-use user interface.

  3. What is XP? • Windows XP (Stands for XPerience) is the latest Microsoft operating system released on October 25, 2001. - Windows 95 - Windows 98 - Windows Millenium Edition - Windows NT, - Windows 2000 - Windows XP

  4. Windows XP Editions Windows XP Home Edition • For entertainment and home use, Windows XP Home Edition helps more with computer and the Internet. Windows XP Professional • Includes networking and other features for business and advanced home computing

Windows XP hardware requirements Recommended requirements • Intel Pentium II (or compatible) 300 MHz or higher processor. • 128 MB of RAM • 2 GB of free hard disk space • SVGA display adapter and Plug and Play monitor • Keyboard, mouse, or other pointing device • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive 12x or faster

Windows XP: Kernel • Windows XP kernel is small compared to the changes between Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, there are a number of important changes that make Windows XP more reliable, more scalable, and more broadly compatible with existing applications.This article focuses on the kernel changes made to achieve these improvements

  9. Push Locks • Windows XP introduces a new locking mechanism, called push locks, as a synchronization mechanism for protecting pageable data in kernel mode.

  10. Prefetch • Prefetching is the process of bringing data and code pages into memory from disk before it's demanded.

  11. 64-bit Address Space • 64-bit Address Space is divided and laid out is quite different. Where as 32-bit Windows divides the address space in half 2GB for user processes and 2GB for system space 64-bit

  12. Registry • The Configuration Manager now maps the Registry hives into memory much the same way a Win32-based application would memory map a file.

  13. Recovery and Reliability • Windows XP builds in the System Restore, Driver Rollback, Volume Shadow Copy, a more reliable service infrastructure, and new Driver Verifier options inside.
