  1. The main objectives of the BSR INTERREG IIC Programme are to: • promote sustainable development measures in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) • promote a spatial development approach in the BSR • support technical assistance to enhance trans-national co- operation

  2. MATROS - One of more than 40 projects within the INTERREG IIC Programme in the BSR

  3. MATROS - Development of spatial planning and transport infrastructure planning methods for an integrated maritime transport system in the BSR

  4. The overarching aim: To develop planning methods, both spatial planning and transport infrastructure planning methods, to improve the integration of the maritime transportation system in the BSR

  5. Total Budget ................394 300 euros

  6. Project Partners • 11 partners • 9 countries • The Lead Partner (LP) of the project is SIKA – the Swedish Institute for Transport and Communications Analysis

  13. The project will included the following: • Passenger and goods traffic • International and national transport flows • All major ports of commercial interest • Hinterland connections to all major ports

  21. 1. Present Situations and Development Trends

  22. Purpose: • To improve knowledge and understanding of the present situation, historical development and development trends of the maritime transport system including ports and hinterland connections in the BSR

  23. 2. Organisations and Institutions in the Decision Making Process

  24. Purpose: • To develop an understanding of the role of organisational and • institutional factors in shaping maritime transport and its • spatial manifestation in the BSR • To analyse how the institutional and organisational • arrangements might help or hinder the attainment of • objectives of sustainability and efficiency

  25. 3. Demand Projections, Scenarios and Driving Forces for Maritime Transport

Purpose: • Form a view on the prospects for maritime demand and its • structure in the BSR for the coming 20 years based on a • qualitative and quantitative assessment of the main driving • forces • Briefly comment on the methodological basis for projections • and scenarios for maritime transport demand

  27. 4. Planning, Challenges, Potential Measures and Planning Methods

Purpose: • Identify problem areas for maritime transport development • and potential measures • Formulate planning challenges related to problem/measures • Identify possibilities within the BSR to improve current • planning and decision support tools • Devise relevant improvements to these tools

  30. Purpose: • Interact with existing networks and promote new • networks within the field of maritime transport, • transport infrastructure- and spatial planning

  31. 6. A Strategy and a Vision for the Maritime Transport System in the BSR

  32. Purpose: • To develop and describe a strategy for the development for • the maritime transport system in the BSR • To investigate the possible basis for a common vision
