The Italian Maritime Cluster • 40 Billions of Euro (3% of the NGP) • Value in export: 15 Billions of Euro (5% of the whole National export): • -Shipping Activities: 17 billions • -Port Logistics and Services:5 billions • -Shipbuilding and Yachting: 5 billions • -Fishing: 5 billions • -Nautical Tourism: 4 billions • -Institutional activities: 4 billions • (Navy, Coast Guard, Port Authorities, etc.)

  3. Italian Maritime Cluster • 165,000 direct employees plus 230,000 upstream • Added value per employee: 110.000 euro • World Leader in ferries fleet, super yacht building, cruise ships building • First place in Europe for import-export by Sea with 200mln tons per year

The Italian Maritime Activities • Purchases in other economic sectors and investments • -12 Billions of Euro (4.4% of the total Italian investments). • Contribution to National GDP: 40 billion euros • -more then Agriculture, Automotive, Chemical, Textile and • Furniture • 59% of Italian import and 47% of the Italian export goes • trough Ports • 600.000 among boats, inflatablesand yachts • -average yearly expenses of 13.000 euro each

Ports and TEN-T Network • +30% the good’s traffic from now to 2030 (EU DG Move – 2010) • Sea transportation will increase by 70% from now to 2030 • Necessity to: • integrate both railways and maritime networks in a Paneuropean perspective to re-launch Lisboa’s strategy • implement maritime transportation projects and Short Sea Shipping with a Mediterranean Vision • reach a sustainable development and a environmental care of the areas involved

The Italian Ports Strategic position: in the middle of Mediterranean Sea Competitive offer for both International and Regional Ports High level professional operators Need to further improve infrastractures and connections (new Port areas, connections to highways, railways and logistics platforms) Excess of bureaucracy Lack of perception of their strategic role for the Italian Economy
