The store loses $.11 on each pound of bananas it sells. • Write a VERBAL model that you can use to find the amount of money that the store loses depending on the number of pounds of bananas it sells. • Write an expression to convert the verbal model to an mathematical model. • The store sells 2956 pounds of bananas. How much money does the store lose on banana sales? • The store also advertises apple juice for $1.19 per bottle, and loses $.08 per carton. Write a mathematical model or expression to determine how much they lose on apple juice depending on how much is sold. • How much will the store lose if they sell 3107 bottles? • Can we combine these two models to determine the total lose? • Why would a store intentionally sell an item at a loss (“loss leader”)?
