Vision & Mission • What causes do you value and care about most? • Young people • Education • Employment • Citizenship Vision Every young person has the potential to transform their life and develop as active citizens in their communities. Mission Increase access to quality education for the most disadvantaged, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty.

  4. Outcomes • What change would you like to achieve? • Increased enrolment in, and completion of, school • Higher standards of teaching • Improved learning and understanding • Community engagement in education • More young people in employment

Strategy • Review existing and past initiatives • Consider what works and what doesn’t • Consult others • Build on government policies and plans • Determine strategy and priorities: • Secondary and higher education • Enrolment and completion • Quality of teaching • Learning environment • School facilities • School governance • Parent and community support

Delivery Model • Geographic focus: Two districts in two States in India • Partnership with 50 Schools: • Joint planning with Schools • Schools have ownership and accountability • Grant-making: • Grants to others • Implement directly • Mix of both • Interventions: • Funding • Skills development • Technical resources • Equipment and facilities • Advocacy

  7. Measure Progress • Funding for research and evaluation • Define key indicators • Use of control group for comparison • Baseline assessment • Quantitative and qualitative data • Regular monitoring and adjustment • Evaluation, including unintended outcomes

Results & Influence • Role of philanthropist as enabler and risk-taker • Document, share and discuss results • Including what worked, what didn’t and why • Identify and apply learning • Consider implications for policy and scale-up • Minimise re-invention and duplication • Review strategy periodically
