  3. The 1970s Disco Era Fashion Trend [Women] • Dresses: • Women wore mini-dresses made out of a very tight and stretchy material like spandex. The dress could be metallic, or have bold designs on it. Dresses that had sleeves flared out were common for the Disco. • Pants: • Jeans: Made in different styles, but often were “wide-legged, flared and bell bottomed.” • Shirts: • Ascot Blouses: A variety of ascot blouses; have ruffles around the neck area, while some have simple ties which can be made into bows.

The 1970s Fashion Trend [Women] • Shoes: • Platform shoes: heels that were made out of cork or wood; feet are “strapped in around the ankles and allow the toe to peep through.” • Hairstyles: • African cornrow: “The hair is plaited tight to the scalp either in straight rows or intricate patterns”; the ends were either secured with elastic bands or beads.

The 1970s Fashion Trend [Men] • Shirts: • Collared shirts with metallic colors or bold designs made out of satin or spandex were very popular among men.It was trendy to turn the collars upward and leave the top portion unbuttoned to expose the chest.. • Pants: • Flared trousers with patterns or prints • Jackets: • The Disco Jacket was also very trendy in the 70’s with its sleeves flared out. They were made out of satin because satin reflects the lights in the disco very well.
