  2. PHRASING • Phrasing means simply putting steno words together in one stroke for the purpose of writing faster and shorter! • Phrasing is accomplished by using “leading” words or phrases and “trailing” words or phrases together with the vowel keys.

PHRASING • Leading words are words that are written on the initial side (or left side of the asterisk) on the steno keyboard. • Leading words are words that start a phrase. • Trailing words are words that are written on the final side (or right side of the asterisk) on the steno keyboard. • Trailing words are words that end a phrase.
