  1. Combined Fires and Systems EngineeringJSA TP-4 and AG-15 • Program Name: Systems Engineering • Objective: TP4 • Demonstration of the potential impact of Systems Engineering on Defense Modernization • Investigate opportunities for progressing the understanding of Systems of Systems Engineering • Repeated series of conference on Systems Engineering Topics in support of national areas of concern • Program Name: Combined Fires Action Group • Objective: AG15 • Evaluate the opportunities for S&T to enhance the capability of Combined Fires • Leverage a Systems Engineering approach • Facilitate pan TTCP involvement in Combined Fires R&D • . • Payoff • Integration of Systems Engineering in the Acquisition Process • Systems Engineering approach to assessing Combined Fires • International Interest in mandating the requirement for battle lab experimentation to understand systems of systems through out the acquisition process. • Stand up of the coalition Joint Fires Executive Steering Committee. • Future Activities: • AG15 transitioning into the JSA TP8 Combined Fires Experimentation and Demonstration • Sponsorship of future CAGE series of experiments. • Supporting US and AS investigation of Experimentation in support of understanding Systems of Systems during the early acquisition process Participants: DSTO, VCDF DRDC /JFS & CFWC DSTL US OSD(AT&L) JFCOM This award is made for demonstrating the ability to integrate Modelling and Simulation with real world coalition C2 systems, utilizing a systems engineering process, which has enabled the early demonstration of technology gaps and problems in planned acquisitions required to support ongoing operations in Afghanistan. The results not only had immediate impact on coalition operations but have demonstrated a gap in the pre-acquisition system of systems acquisition process in all TTCP countries.
