  2. WARNING • I am not an expert on Social Media • This is a collections of my opinions, ideas and research

  3. SOCIAL MEDIA • What is it? • Why do it? • Do we Care?

  4. Social Media is like teen sex. Everybody wants to do it. Nobody knows how ! Let look at a definition

  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media Social media are media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media use web-based technologies to transform and broadcast media monologues into social media dialogues. They support the democratization of knowledge and information and transform people from content consumers to content producers. Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content. Businesses also refer to social media as user-generated content (UGC) or consumer-generated media (CGM). Social media utilization is believed to be a driving force in defining the current period as the Attention Age.

  6. Social media can be said to have three components: • Concept (art, information, or meme). • Media (physical, electronic, or verbal). • Social interface (intimate direct, community engagement, social viral, electronic broadcast or syndication, or other physical media such as print).

  7. Here are some examples of social media websites: • Social Bookmarking. (Del.icio.us, Blinklist, Simpy) Interact by tagging websites and searching through websites bookmarked by other people. • Social News. (Digg, Propeller, Reddit) Interact by voting for articles and commenting on them. • Social Networking. (Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM) Interact by adding friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups and having discussions. • Social Photo and Video Sharing. (YouTube, Flickr) Interact by sharing photos or videos and commenting on user submissions. • Wikis. (Wikipedia, Wikia) Interact by adding articles and editing existing articles. • And these websites are not the only social media websites. Any website that invites you to interact with the site and with other visitors falls into the definition of social media.
