Geriatrics & Extended Care Policy • Policy is a plan of action adopted or pursued by an individual, government, party or business, etc… • Within the U.S. Government policy usually takes the form of: • Public Laws Manuals • Statutes Handbooks • Regulations Program guides • Directives Procedure guides • Memorandums Brochures • Notices Information letters

SVH Clinical Oversight Program Information Letter • Information Letter provides guidance and a standardized approach to VA and SVH in the reporting process for reportable events that occur in SVH providing nursing home care to eligible Veterans. • Related Regulation: Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 51.120, and 51.210. • Does not reduce or eliminate the requirement of SVH and VA to comply with applicable Federal and State statutes and regulations.

SVH Clinical Oversight Program- Information Letter • This Information Letter will delineate what types of events are reportable. • It will also include reporting timeframes, format and a communication process for use within VA for internal communications and where indicated, with external shareholders. • Status-draft in final stages of development

  5. MDS 3.0 in State Veterans Homes • Federal Register / Vol. 76, No. 218 / Thursday, November 10, 2011 posting • Requires State nursing homes receiving per diem from VA to use the most recent CMS Resident Assessment Instrument/Minimum Data Set (MDS), which is version 3.0. • This will ensure that the standard used to assess veterans is the same as the standard applicable to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. • This proposed rule is expected to be finalized and published in the next couple of months. It is currently in concurrence in VA.
