3. Introduction There are many different types of slavery on different continents throughout the entire world. There are as many as millions of slaves in certain countries. In 2013, modern slavery takes many forms, and is known by many names, including human trafficking, forced labor, and slavery.

4. Introduction Cont. Slavery-like practices include debt bondage, forced or servile marriage, sale or exploitation of children including in armed conflict. Victims of modern slavery have their freedom denied, and are used and controlled and exploited by another person for profit, sex or the thrill of domination.

6. African Slavery African countries dominate a new global index on slavery, with 38 of the 50 nations where the enslavement is at its worst. The Global Slavery Index estimated that nearly 30 million people remain enslaved globally, millions of whom are in Africa.

7. African Slavery Cont. In many African countries, children are sold into labor by poor rural parents, sent to Koranic schools where they are forced to beg on the streets. Man young boys are recruited and forced to be child soldiers by armed militias. Girls are often married off young and denied an education, or forced to be sex slaves and cooks by armed groups.

9. Areas of Slavery in Africa Mauritania has the poorest record, with around 150,000 people in a population of 3.8 million held captive, many of whom inherited their status from their parents. Other African countries with particularly high prevalence of slavery are located in West Africa: Benin, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Gabon and Senegal.

10. Mauritania Cont. The country of Mauritania has banned the practice and signed international conventions against slavery and child labor. However adults and children from slave castes in Mauritania are usually illiterate, unaware of their rights and enslaved in domestic labor and as cattle herders. They are regarded as the property of their masters. Slaves can see their children sold to other masters, or given away as gifts.

West African Slavery West Africa has a vital place in the history of transatlantic slavery as the departure gateway for slaves seized in raiding expeditions before they were shipped to the New World. Today children are trafficked around the region and forced into domestic service, farm labor or sexual exploitation.

14. When Slavery began in Ancient China The Xia dynasty, was the first dynasty that emerged in China 4,100 years ago, and was overthrown by the Shang Dynasty. The slave-owning system developed with the growth of farm and handicraft production. Nobles were invested with hereditary titles and land, making slaves work on the land. More farmland came under private ownership and slave system became a more feudal society.

15. Slavery In Ancient China The slaves had no freedom, and they had to work hard for their masters. After their master died, they were killed or buried alive to serve their masters in the underworld. People believed in the after-life world during the Xia Dynasty.

16. The Values of Slaves The lives of slaves were the hardest of all. Most people who were slaves worked in the fields. Some of them worked as servants in rich people’s houses. The Emperor owned hundreds of slaves, and some of them worked for the government, collecting taxes or building roads. Some people were born slaves, because their mothers were slaves, and other people were sold into slavery to pay debts.

17. What types slavery still exist today? Bonded labor, child slavery, forced marriage, forced labor, descent-based slavery, and human trafficking all are considered as modern day slavery. These different types of slavery affects the Chinese population in a cruel and punishable way.

18. Children under Chinese Law People above 18 years old and those from 16 -18 who make a living on their own have full civil conduct capacity. Children aged from 10-15 have limited capacity of civil conduct. Children under 10 years old have no civil conduct capacity.

19. Working Conditions for Children Many of these children work in sweatshops, factories, companies, farms and many other harsh working conditions. They are working up to 14 hours per day with two one-hour breaks, and are paid very less. These jobs are harsh and are hazards resulting in injury and death because children are less aware of workplace than older workers These children often drop out of school and work because their one of the financial providers for their family, knowing their family will continue to be slaves.

20. Forced Labor in Schools The government calls it "Educational Labor.“ Schools would have their students do work like growing and harvesting crops. The problem is that most schools abuse this law and they end up forcing the children to do a lot of heavy labor.
