Technology • Should K-12 students be aloud to have laptops, tablets, phones, and calculators in school? • Effect the learning environment? • Do they really learn the material? • Does the technology encourage cheating? • Does technology improve students knowledge of a subject? • Calculators, Mobile technology, Laptops? Helpful? Or are they just a distraction.

  3. Examples of Technology in Education • One Science Classroom in Colorado is dedicated to learning science and using new technology. This class is equipped with: • 10 iPad- Field Trips and Classroom use • 2 iPod touches- Field Trips • 2 digital Cameras- Projects • 1 Flip camera- Video taping experiments • 3 GPS units- For Plotting Geographic Maps and learning Coordinates. • 5 desktops computers • 30 shared laptops • 25 Google Netbooks • Improve both students with special needs and the average student. TCAP (Colorado’s Standardized Test) scores have improved over the past 2 years.

  4. Calculators • Where and When should calculators be aloud? • Is it taking away from the learning process? • New Calculators: Do they really teach the fundamentals every child should know? • TI-Nspire • Casio Touch Screen Handheld Calculator

Calculators in the Classroom • According to Research, calculators do not improve the fundamental knowledge of simple math applications, such as arithmetic. • When should kids be aloud to use calculators? • Calculators in the classroom has increased over the past 20 years. 20 years ago the standards for math and science were not as large as they are now.
