  2. 1. Preach the Word • Preach = to herald, proclaim, publish • Message is from God • Official proclaimer of the good news Eph. 4:15 - “But speaking the truth in love”

  3. 1. Preach the Word Inspired – 2 Tim.3:16-17 • Word • Not politics, philosophy or self • Word of God Cannot Change Gal.1:6-9 Will of God Gospel Word of Truth The Truth Sound Doctrine

  4. 2. Be Instant in Season out of Season • Instant = Urgent, prepared • In or Out of Season • No closed season for preaching • When they like it • When they don’t like it To please God Not men

  5. 3. Reprove • To confute, admonish, convict • Convince one of his sins • With the idea of correction Bible can show us our sins Heb.4:12

  6. 4. Rebuke • To Censure – forbid - admonish • Tell them that they are wrong • Warn them they will be lost unless they repent

  7. 4. Rebuke • Demand is for Positive Preaching • Want us to forget negative preaching • It will run people away [we are told] • Isa. 30:10 “...speak unto us smooth things,... “Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” Gal. 4:16

  8. 4. Rebuke • Felix was rebuked by Paul • Acts 24:25 “reasoned of righteousness” • Purpose of preaching is to show error of a sinful life • Some will not repent • Responsibility for changing is upon hearer!!

  9. 5. Exhort • Invite, beseech, call for, comfort, intreat • Encourage to do what he knows he should • Positive part of preaching • With longsuffering - patience • With Doctrine

  10. “For the time will come...” • Not Endure Sound Doctrine • Sound = healthy, wholesome • Cannot stand the truth or hard preaching • They do not love the church

  11. “For the time will come...” • Teachers with itching ears • Teach what the people like to hear • Pleases people • Pleases the preacher

  12. “For the time will come...” Teachers with itching ears New Bible publication literally cuts out unused parts

  13. “For the time will come...” • Turn to Fables • Something different from the truth • Doctrines of men / not the Bible • Myths, fiction • Turning away from the truth

  15. Preach the Word John 10:12-13 - not to be hirelings Faithful preacher will preach the truth Those who love the truth want the truth to be preached !!
