  11. ADVANTAGESINTER-REGIONAL UI • WIN – WIN PLATFORM – PROMOTES TRADE • SPOT MARKET IN REAL TIME • REDUCES THE NEED FOR BILATERAL • BEST UTILISATION OF FLEXIBLE HYDRO • ALL COSTLIER GENERATORS IN SR • ALL PIT-HEAD GENERATORS IN ER • GENERALLY SR IS ENERGY DEFICIT & ER IS ENERGY SURPLUS • SHORTAGE OF COAL / LIGNITE IN SR • IMPACT OF ENVIROMENT • REPLACE COSTLY GENERATION BY CHEAPER GENERATION

  12. ER –SR LINK PRESENT • 500 MW GAJUWAKA HVDC B2B • 2000 MW TALCHER-KOLAR HVDC FUTURE • ANOTHER 500 MW HVDC B2B AT GAJUWAKA BY DECEMBER 2004 • ENHANCEMENT OF TALCHER-KOLAR HVDC TO 2500 MW BY NEXT YEAR DIAGRAM

  14. UI ON ER –SR LINK • FLEXIBILITY TO THE SYSTEM OPERATOR • MERIT ORDER • OPTIMISATION OPPORTUNITY • LOSS REDUCTION • DE-CONGESTION OF NETWORK • RAIPUR-ROURKELA IN ER • BHILAI-KORADI IN WR • CUDAPAH-KOLAR, NUNNA-NELLORE IN SR • VOLTAGE CONTROL • FGMO – MORE CONDUCIVE

  15. PRESENT ER –SR UI • ER UI IS CALCULATED BASED ON THE ER FREQUENCY • ONLY ONE SIDE FREQUNCY IS USED • NO EXTRA BENEFIT TO THE EXPORTING ER REGION • LIKE PRACTICE OF OTHER REGIONAL LINKS, BENEFITS WITH RESPECTIVE REFERENCE FREQUENCY IS NOT PRESENT

  16. PRESENT ER –SR UI • TO BE IN LINE WITH OTHER INTER REGIONAL LINKS, THE SAME PHILOSOPHY OF SHARING THE BENEFIT IN THE RATIO OF 50:50 HAS TO BE USED AFTER CALCULATING WITH RESPECTIVE REFERENCE FREQUNCY DIFFERNCES BETWEEN ER-SR LINK AND OTHER INTER REGIONAL LINKS • TALCHER STAGE2 BELONGING TO SR IS PRESENT IN ER • TALCHER – KOLAR HVDC LINE IS PART OF SR TRANSMISSION SYSTEM • LOSS AND TRANSMISSION CHARGES OF TALCHER KOLAR LINE IS BORNE BY SR.

  17. SUGGESTION • WHILE ARRIVING THE RATIO FOR SHARING THE BENEFIT THE FOLLOWING HAS TO CONSIDERED • CHANGING OF SCHEDULING/METERING POINT (ER INTER CONNECTOR) • TALCHER –KOLAR LINE LOSS • TRANSMISSION CHARGES OF TALCHER – KOLAR LINE

  18. SUGGESTION • INSTEAD OF INTERCONNECTOR OF TALCHER 1 & 2 TALCHER HVDC CAN BE MADE SCHEDULING AND METERING POINT. • TALCHER STAGE 2 WILL BE IN THE ER POOL FOR UI ACCOUNT.
