  1. Welcome To Mountain4Cast

  2. What is M4C? Mountain4cast is everything you need when planning a trip to the mountains: • Real-time weather forecast • Rain and Snowfall • Avalanche Risk predictions and alerts • and more

  3. With this presentation we will show you the basics of the site and guide you through the process of obtaining a Mountain4Cast.

  4. Step #1 - Select Desired Location Use quick search to find your location - Type in your specific mountain feature such as Lake, Peak, Waterfall, Canyon, or Pass Name, etc…

  6. Step #1 – Select Desired Location Click on the map to specify your location With this map you can zoom in just like Google Maps and pinpoint your location

  7. Step #2 – Select Forecast After Selecting a location, M4C will show the coordinates of that position along with the elevation. You will then be able to select what type of Forecast you want

  8. Real-Time Mountain4Cast When you click on Real-time Mountain4Cast you will need to go through a series of steps to finalize data.

  9. Real-Time Mountain • We will be asking you to select sensors that are close to your desired location in order to obtain the most accurate Real-Time data for that area. • The sensors are drawn from Snotel, Clarus, and NOAA

  10. Specifying Sensors Shows all of the sensors close to your chosen location

  11. Specifying Sensors Notice that with each sensor there are important pieces of information such as elevation and distance from your selected location Once you have selected the sensor of your choice click the Next Step Button

  12. Specifying Sensors Once you have specified sensor choices for Snotel, Clarus, and NOAA your forecast data will be finalized and presented to you.

Real Time Results • You will be presented with a series of graphs when the results are presented • These graphs will be specific to information such as Avalanche Risk, Snow Water Equivalent, Snow Depth, and Temperature. • A set of data known as “Clarus Real Time Readings” will also be presented

  14. Real Time Results At the top of the results page you will see this information You will also have the ability to add this location to your favorites. This can then be seen on the home page every time you want a forecast. The coordinates for the selected location (Relative to the map) Elevation for your selected location

Real Time Results • Important Note*** • Real-time fixed reports (like Snotel, Clarus or NOAA's Snow Observation) are displaying current and past weather data recorded by sensors located at the coordinates shown below each section. Please note that this information may not apply to your chosen location

  16. Avalanche Risk The Mountain4Cast formula for avalanche will take all parameters in the chart into account and will define the risk according to standard avalanche risks.

  18. Daily Reports (Last 7 Days) This chart will show the Snow Water Equivalent (in.) for the last 7 days in regards to the sensor you selected

  19. Daily Reports (Last 7 Days) This chart will show the Snow Depth (in.) for the last 7 days in regards to the sensor you selected

  20. Daily Reports (Last 7 days) This chart will show the Temperature (F) for the last 7 days in regards to the sensor you selected

Daily Reports Usefulness • These Snotel Data charts for the last 7 days can be very helpful when planning a trip for a certain area. • It will give you the necessary information to not be surprised about the conditions at your desired location. • Shows the progression of conditions over the past week

  22. Real-Time Readings • We are also gathering important information from Clarus that can be useful for Mountain4Cast • The moment you pick which Clarus sensor you want, this information will be displayed as real time readings from that location

Real-Time Readings Usefulness • These readings from Clarus can provide you with extra information that may be important for a trip in the mountains • Real Time readings will give you a instant sense of what is happening at your specified location • The more information, the better when planning a trip in the mountians

  24. 7-Day Forecast After selecting a location on the homepage you will also be able to choose a 7-day forecast.

  25. 7-Day Forecast • You can access this forecast after picking a location from the homepage There is an option in the Real Time Results page that can transfer you to a 7 day forecast for that location OR

  26. 7-Day Forecast • With the 7 day forecast option, you will be presented with an estimated forecast for the specified location through NOAA data. • With this forecast it will be specific to the exact location that you select on the map on the homepage or define in the search bar • With the use of the NOAA data, we are able to present these future 7-day forecast so you can know what to expect on a trip

  27. 7-Day Forecast Important Note**** The forecast charts are displaying estimated weather values for the next 7 (seven) days for Precipitation (liquid and show) in inches, Wind Speed (in miles/hour) and Temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit) - as well as Dew Point, Minimum and Maximum Temperature variations for the following days.

  30. Powder Rating (7 day Forecast) • At Mountain4Cast we have come up with a Powder Rating Formula that translates into this chart. • Information drawn from sensors in the area will be involved in the Powder Rating

Usefulness of 7-Day Forecast • The 7-day forecast for the future will give you a sense of what will happen while on a trip in the mountains • This forecast is very similar to ones you would look at in a newspaper, but they will be specific to the exact location you choose • Will reduce the chance of surprise weather conditions in the mountains

  36. Alerts Within Mountain4Cast you will also be able to receive alerts about specific weather conditions for a selected area. - These alerts will then be delivered to your e-mail account that you confirmed while signing up for Mountain4Cast

  37. Alerts Conditions can be checked daily, every 2-4 days, or weekly • Setting the specifications for the alert system: • 11 options to choose from • Can require it to be greater than, less than, or equal to • Can select if alert is for current day or next day

  38. Alerts All of your alerts will be available for view in this section You will be able to specify your location by selecting it on the map - When finished, click Add and your alert is ready to go
