  1. September 19, 2014 Miss Rampart’s Classroom News Literacy Centers Our Literacy Centers consist of six stations associated with our Journeys reading series. Here is what we did in our centers: Grammar– Nouns: People Students chose six friends, wrote down their names and drew a picture. Poetry – “I Can!” poem Students filled in the letter “I” and filled in an “I Can” statement. Writing – Name activity Students wrote their name and decorated a ChickaChicka tree. Word Work – “I” Students did different writing activities with the word “I.” Listening – ChickaChicka Boom Boom Students listened to our story on CD, then completed a listening response sheet. Art – ChickaChicka handprint tree Students created a tree with their handprints and decorated it with letters in their name. Math Centers There are five different math centers. This week they focused on: Filling in missing numbers (1-15) Sorting shapes by cutting and gluing correct shapes into their columns. Rolling and tracing numbers with dice. Number formation Five frames Parent volunteers will begin in early to mid-October. Be on the lookout for a schedule coming soon! This week our theme was “ChickaChicka Boom Boom.” It was an important week for us as we began our reading and math series. We will be using Journeys and Everyday Math. We also began our centers this week! Your child will be learning and growing through handwriting centers, literacy centers, and math centers. Home Folders – please return your child’s folder back to school each day. These folders are not to be kept at home. Rest Towels – rest towels will be sent home every Friday. Please wash your child’s towel and return it back in the bag on Monday. IMPORTANT INFO
