  2. What is cancer? When a large amount of damaged cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps or masses called tumors

  3. Some Factors That Cause Cancer • Carcinogens- substances that harm the body’s DNA, such as tobacco, asbestos, arsenic and radiation • Genetic Predisposition- damaged genes can be passed on that make a person more susceptible to develop cancer in their life • Aging- may cause mutations of DNA

  4. Symptoms • Depend on the location of the cancer and may include some of these: • Fever • Fatigue • Weight Loss • Pain • Skin Changes

  5. Benign or Malignant? Benign Tumors Malignant Tumors Cancerous Invades nearby tissues and organs Can enter into bloodstream Can result in death • Non-cancerous • Rarely life threatening • Can be removed • Does not spread to other parts of the body

  6. Treatments • Surgery • Radiation • Chemotherapy
