  2. Registration of Naturopaths • The argument for an independent national register of Naturopaths has been taking place over many years now. • In Victoria the passing of the Chinese Medicine Registration Act in 2000 was seen by some in the CAM community as the 1st step forward toward this end.

  3. An organisation called the Australian Register of Naturopaths and Herbalists (ARONAH) has been established to lobby for the registration of all Naturopaths. • ARONAH will provided minimum standards of education and practice for naturopathy and herbal medicine. • Read the attached article from the boards advertising in 2011.

  4. It was expected that the register would mirror government requirements for the regulation of health practitioners. • Check out their website: www.aronah.org

  5. Using the material on registration • Read through material provided • In around 100 - 150 words, write down your own thoughts on the topic. Where do you stand on this issue? Based on your reading, where do you see this issue progressing?

  6. If we take the view of many of the association and ARONAH that the industry has suffered because of lack of credibility, how do we explain the growth in the industry? (Online students – 2 – 3 lines only)

  7. Survey to show % of people who want registration.

Based on your readings, as a group, put together a list of pros and cons for registration. • Now, add to the argument that there is a push for CAM therapists to be Medicare registered and therefore their clients will be eligible for a Medicare Rebate with registration. This is being staunchly opposed and many believe it will never happen. Have a think about the implications of this for the health care system and its ability to cope with CAM on the Medicare rebate system. Would it be bad thing? Have someone play devil’s advocate and see where the discussion takes you. (Online students, give your views in about 4 – 5 lines only)

Where do you go from here?? • Take some time to reflect on the philosophical journey you have been on over the last 18 weeks. • Consider your philosophical stand point now, compared to 18 weeks ago (online students are to post their thoughts): • Has it changed ? How? • Is it the same? Why? • Do you think you need to learn more?
