  3. The Commonwealth • 1649-1660 • Led by the Lord Protector • Oliver Cromwell was an important Lord Protector

  4. Charles II • 1660-1685 • Reigned during the Great fire of London • Was not a strong leader, let Parliament have more power

  5. James II • 1685-1688 • Unpopular because he was Catholic

  6. William III and Mary II • 1688-1702 • Mary was the daughter of James II, but William, her husband, was also descended from Charles I. So they reigned as joint monarchs.

  7. Anne • 1702-1714 • Sister of Mary II

  8. George I • 1714-1727 • Spoke German and very poor english

  9. George II • 1727-1760 • Last British king to lead army into battle

  10. George III • 1760-1811 • Went mad before giving the throne to his son
