  3. Mission of the School Library Media Program: • To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The mission is accomplished: • by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats • by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas • by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students

Vision Statement: • The vision for the West Towson Middle School library media center is: • A place where students feel comfortable, safe and promotes student success • A place where students can become independent learners • A place where students read for enjoyment, learning and personal growth • A place where students gain skills to inquire, think critically, draw conclusions, make informed decisions and create new knowledge • A place where students work collaboratively in order to share and learn with others • A place where the library media specialist teaches information literacy skills and research skills not in isolation but in collaboration with teachers • A place where students use and learn Web 2.0 tools and serve the instructional technology needs of students • The library media center is an extension of the classroom and the educational hub of the school

Relocation and Moving Plans: Before the Move • Create a team • Share with everyone else involved in the moving process • Make a public announcement of the move • The media specialist will need to prepare the collection for the move by weeding. • The media specialist will also need to take inventory of all the equipment and decide which is no longer used or useable by your patrons such filmstrips or overhead projectors. • Order any new equipment and furniture for the new location so that it will be ready for the arrival of your collection.

Relocation and Moving Plans: During the Move • It is time to start packaging everything • Do a walkthrough of the new space to make sure everything is ready and set up for the arrival of the collection and equipment. • Bring equipment and materials in and unpack. • Remain flexible because everything will not go according to plan.
