Origin • The Valley was called as the Nagarkot in the ancient times, as it was the ancient capital of the powerful hill state fort of Nagarkot. • Kangra town was the powerful seat of the Raja Sansar Chand II • The town was attacked by the Mohammad Ghaznavi and was conquered by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. • It is the site of the oldest recorded war in the human history. • It is dotted with most idolized temples of India.

Tourist Places in Kangra Valley • Kangra Valley is also known for its attractive tourist destinations. • Kangra,Dharamshala,Palampur,Baijnath,Jawalamukhi and Masroor are the famous places of tourist interest in the valley. • There is another pilgrimage site in the area called Chintpurni, famous for the numerous stone temples. • McleodGanj is famous for Dalai Lama Temple in Dharamshala under kangra Valley. • A beautiful and picturesque lake, Kareri Lake is a placed in Kangra Valley.

Adventure Sports in Kangra Valley • Kangra Valley is simply the ideal location for the adventure sports. • There are many trekking routes passing through the Dhauladhar ranges. • Bir-Billing is one of the best adventure and Paragliding place in Kangra valley. • Triund trek is one of the famous trekking route in Kangra Valley. • Dharamshala to Chamba-over Balanijot, the Minkiani Pass, Indrahar Pass and Bhimghasutri Pass. • Dharamshala to Holi and then to Manimahesh over the Talang Pass. • Palampur to Holi over the Shinghar Pass. • Palampur to Dharamshala via the Indrahar Pass. • Baijnath to Manali over Thamsar Pass.

Climate • Kangra's climate is classified as warm and temperate. • During Summer Season i.e. March to June,temperature in kangra varies between 22 degree Celsius to 38 degree Celsius. • For Trekking Summer Season is the best time to visit.During Monsoon Season Three months under comes July, August and September. • Kangra Valley gets garlended with lush and fresh greenery in the monsoon,it does get messed up because of the heavy rainfall. • Winter Season start from December till February.Sometimes, temperature descends to 4 degree celsius. Snowfall can also seen in the high areas.

  6. Ways to Reach Kangra Valley By Road: The valley is reached by roads from other parts of Himachal Pradesh. By Railway: Kangra Valley Railways is a 164 km long narrow gauge railway line that connects the valley with Pathankot, the nearest railhead on broad gauge railway network. By Air: Gaggal Airport,alternatively known as Kangra Airport or Dharamshala-Kangra Airport located in Gaggal near Kangra City around 14 km far away.
