  2. History • 1924: First chapter of Delta Omega established at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health • 58 national chapters throughout U.S. and Puerto Rico • Delta Omega meets during APHA • Sponsors National Student Poster Competition • http://www.deltaomega.org/

  3. Upsilon Chapter (UAB) • Established 1989 • Elizabeth Delzell, Executive Secretary • 4 members inducted • 301 members currently

  4. Membership Categories • Student Membership • Faculty Membership • Alumni Membership • Honorary Membership • Emeriti Membership

  5. Student Induction • Nomination Committee • Selects students • Upper twenty-five percent (25%) in class standing • Graduate GPA of at least 3.75 • Eligible students notified of nomination

Induction Selection of new student members: • Nominating committee meets and selects from eligible students based on: • Leadership and achievements in: • Research, • Scholarly activity, and • Service. • Graduate GPA • Letter of endorsement (letter of support) • Plans to attend the graduation induction ceremonies; and • Plans to follow a career in public health. • Limited to 10% or fewer of students from any graduating class. • Induction at spring luncheon and recognition at soph’s graduation ceremony

  7. Student Poster Session • Delta Omega has held a Student Poster Session at the annual American Public Health Association meeting since 1998. • Research abstracts are selected by each Delta Omega chapter and submitted to the National Office for final selection.

  8. Student Poster Session • Posters will be presented at APHA in November and students will be recognized at a reception. • This year the Delta Omega student poster competition will be part of the school’s Public Health Research Day. See www.soph.uab.edu/publichealthresearchday • Deadline for submission: March 15, 2009 • Information will be available in the Office of Student Affairs and on the School’s webpage
